If you’ve ever dropped into the Modern Homes showroom, you’ll have seen our display of awards and Thank You cards from clients. We keep these on display as a constant reminder that the effort we put into our business is worth it. We feel that taking the time to acknowledge our success is important, because as any small business owner will know, time passes by far too quickly each week to stop, sit back, and digest exactly what we’re all achieving.
So we were absolutely delighted to be finalists in two categories for this year’s Leamington Business Awards. Established in 2014, and now organised by Jonathan Smith, of Talk Business UK, the Leamington Business Awards champion and celebrate the work of local businesses, individuals, and organisations. The ceremony, hosted by DJ and Leamingtonian Kirsty Leahy, took place at 1 Mill Street on 18th March 2022.
What we won
I’m sure you can only imagine our delight when we found on that we’d been chosen as Independent Business of the Year, which was sponsored by HB&O. We’re honoured, as there were only 11 winners out of over 180 nominations! Having traded for 54 years we’re extremely proud of this achievement and recognition, and we’d like to thank everyone involved. We’re also impressed by the bespoke star-shaped award, which was designed by 3D design student, Ollie Hill from Warwickshire College.
How we were judged
The judges were looking for evidence of uniqueness and the personality of the business, and stated that, “this award will go to the independent business from Leamington Spa that can demonstrate first class customer service and innovative products and services.”
Following the award decision, Judges’ comments included, “We loved the Covid hero competition as well as their business resilience and agility over the last two years. There was a great story about finding a new supplier on Zoom.”
We’d also like to acknowledge the fellow independent businesses we’re lucky enough to work with, and we want to spread the word that working with independent businesses is the way forward! Leamington benefits from a bustling business community and it’s one we love being a part of. New businesses arrive regularly and it’s so rewarding to see how many survive, thrive, and grow.
Despite the huge challenges facing everyone from all corners of our industry over the last two years, this has brought us some much-needed positivity. It’s been tough – so much so that we felt we had to write an appeal for empathy targeted at the very small minority of customers who have lacked understanding in these difficult times where we’re battling factors outside of our control.
How we feel
The challenges we’ve faced, and continue to face, mean that winning this year, of all years, really does mean something very special. It’s a testament to the hard work of every single member or our team, to the relationships we build with our clients, to the innovation we bring to our designs, and to the quality of the products we use.
