At Modern Homes, transforming your home is one of many things that we do best. For some homeowners, the kitchen is one room that many of us spend hours in per day. Whether we are cooking, cleaning, washing up, making a coffee, eating dinner or hosting, the kitchen is a highly trafficked area.

Kitchens generally last a very long time but depending on décor and the age of the fixtures and fittings in the room, a kitchen can look outdated and in need of a freshen up every now and then.

The team at Modern Homes recently transformed an old and tired kitchen when a client moved into a 1996 property. Below we have documented the recent transformation, where we created a warm and welcoming space for them to enjoy for years to come.

The Brief

Our brief was to transform an outdated, dark and unwelcoming kitchen in a 1996 property. We believe the current kitchen was put in when the property was built, making it approximately 25 years old. Our client had requested a brighter room with more of a ‘country’ theme. As per most of our projects, we also had to incorporate several appliances such as the washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, fridge freezer, hob, cooker and extractor. With so much to consider and an average sized room, this meant that the remaining units had to work well as storage solutions.

The Project

In order to achieve the ‘country’ theme that our client was looking for, we used our Traditional Shaker Style range in ivory for maximum light. We combined this with traditional style handles for the cupboards and a modern wood effect laminate worktop. (This material is much easier to maintain that real timber.) The warmth of the tones in the wood complemented the style and colour palette that we used beautifully.

The existing boiler, which was a bit of an eyesore, was replaced with a modern system that we have installed into a boiler housing unit. This unit disguises the boiler whilst still adhering to safety regulations and allowing easy access for servicing.

The traditional style ceramic farmhouse sink, and cream-coloured tiles brightened and modernised the sink and backsplash area, whilst the slate effect Karndean flooring replicated real stone whilst being easy to clean and maintain.

The Outcome

The finished result was almost un-recognisable to what we were working with in the beginning. The kitchen has been completely transformed into a bright, warm and welcoming room, with plenty of storage space and practical worktops. We have successfully achieved what we set out to do and have a very happy customer as a result.
